How do I start a chat?
All your conversations live in the Chats tab. To start a new one:
- Open the Chats tab.
- Tap the compose button.
- Pick a person — the conversation opens and you can start writing.
You can send text, photos, videos, voice notes, files, stickers and GIFs from the built-in pack, plus polls, locations and contacts. Reply to a specific message to keep long conversations readable, and search inside a conversation to find anything in its history.
Groups
A group lets you talk with several people at once. Create one from the same compose button: give it a name and a photo and add members. Any member can add more people later — adding is not limited to admins.
Each chat has its own controls too: mute a conversation to stop its notifications, or set a disappearing-messages timer from the conversation so new messages auto-delete after it.
Message requests
If you message someone who has no connection with you yet, your first message arrives on their side as a message request: you can send one text message, and the full conversation opens once they accept or reply.
If someone can't start a chat with you (or you with them), the "who can message you" setting decides who may open a new conversation.
